Tips for Traveling with Pets in Your VW Cars

vw carsWith traveling season in full swing, you may be making plans to go somewhere in your reliable VW cars. But what do you do with the pets?

Why not bring them along?

Traveling with your pets in your VW cars does not have to be a hassle. There are some things you can do to make the trip as enjoyable for your pet as it is for you. Here are some tips to help you and your pet have a great road trip this summer.

• Shield your cat from the scenery. Many cats get freaked out in a car because the scenery is just whizzing by. This unnerves them and makes them nervous and skittish. To avoid this, drape a light sheet over their carrier so they cannot see the world going by.
• Keep a normal feeding schedule. Pets get anxious when things change. Try to keep their feeding schedule as normal as possible so some things will stay the same for them.
• Keep the car cool. Pets do not like heat. Either keep the windows open or keep the air conditioning going so they will be cool. And never leave them in the car alone. You might think you will only be a minute but that’s enough time for the inside of a car to get up to dangerous temperatures for your pet.

These are just a few things you can do to help your pet stay calm and comfortable in your VW cars during your trip. Just remember – a calm and comfortable pet makes a long trip much easier to handle.

Can Big Brother Help You Save on Car Insurance?

new jersey dealersAre you looking for ways to save more money on car insurance for your VW cars? If so, are you willing to let Big Brother monitor you and your habits in order to save a few bucks?

Some insurance companies are offering drivers the option of saving money on their premiums as long as they are allowed to install a device in your vehicle that monitors every move you make when behind the wheel. Tim Goodwin, a resident of Springfield, Missouri, is one person who does not mind the device.

“There’s the ‘Big Brother’ thing, but it’s good,” he said in an interview. “Since I know I’m being watched, I’m on my best behavior.” He also said that he is less likely to exceed the speed limit knowing that his insurance company is privy to his actions now.

Currently, Progressive is the leading insurance company using this technology. According to the company, there are “tens of thousands” of drivers already enrolled in MyRate, the policy that is available in nine states with several more planned in upcoming months.

We’ll discuss this idea more on Monday. Until then, how would you feel about your insurance company installing a device in your VW cars that monitors your driving behavior? Would it be a good idea for you or would your insurance company be surprised at the way you drive? Let us know your thoughts below!

More about Big Brother and Insuring Your VW Cars

new carsToday, we would like to begin a discussion about insurance companies installing devices on your car to monitor your driving habits. If you have good habits when driving your VW cars, your insurance premiums would likely go down. However, they would be more likely to increase if the device detects bad driving habits.

Some of the bad habits the device would report to the insurance company include fast starts, abrupt stops, times you drive and speed. The device also records the number of miles you drive each year. On the bright side, monitoring your habits could save you up to 25 percent on your premiums if the insurance company deems them ideal. However, your rates could increase by about 10 percent depending on some of the factors and data involved.

Other auto insurers already offer discounts for drivers who do not drive much. One non-insurance company in Texas – MileMeter – offers a system that allows drivers to pre-pay for a set number of miles. They pay their premiums based on those miles and it is typically cheaper than a traditional insurance policy.

Do you see any problems with monitoring a driver’s actions at all times? Or do you think it will make better drivers out of people who would otherwise be careless and possibly even reckless? Leave your thoughts below and we’ll have a discussion about this topic.
