Move over Toyota, Hyundai is getting into the green act.
Environmentally conscious consumers have been waiting years to have some real options when it comes to vehicles that are better on the environment. With rising gas prices, even consumers who aren’t worried about the environment have been looking into more fuel efficient vehicles, hoping to save a few dollars at the pump.
Hyundai Motors has heard the call, and is ramping up efforts to meet these consumer demands.
From 2009 forward, Hyundai is developing and mass producing Hybrid Electric vehicles. This marks the first time that the Korean automaker has moved to mass produce hybrid vehicles, but it isn’t the first time they’ve made them at all. In fact, Hyundai has provided more than 2,800 hybrid cars to the Korean government.
The first mass produced hybrid car from Hyundai will be the Avante (Elantra). It will feature a technology known as LPG, or Liquefied Petroleum Gas. The cars will run on both gas and electricity. LPG produces less pollution than traditional fuel cars, reducing the vehicle’s carbon footprint. The electric hybrid component increases fuel economy, which is also a boon for the environment. Hyundai Dealers expect the Avante hybrid to compete strongly with other hybrid models.
Hyundai isn’t stopping with the mass production of hybrid cars, however. Perhaps the most exciting news is that, beginning in 2010, Hyundai is going to produce a small fleet of vehicles based on fuel cell technology. These vehicles, also known as FCEV or Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles, will be mass produced beginning in 2012. In just a few short years, consumers will have brand new options when it comes to environmentally-friendly transportation, thanks to Hyundai.
