For quite some time, enthusiasts have watched their local Hyundai dealer for the release of the Hyundai Genesis, and now it’s here. This rear wheel drive sedan debuted in 2008, with the 2009 Hyundai Genesis. The Genesis is aimed at the premium sedan market, competing with the likes of the Pontiac G8 and the Chrysler 3000. The Genesis is an excellent combination of value with luxury and performance.
The Hyundai Genesis sedan is roomy, with a total body area that is larger than the Lexus LS460 or the Mercedes S-Class. The sedan is the first of the Genesis series, with a coupe speculated for a 2011 model year release.
There are three different powertrains to choose from with the 2009 Hyundai Genesis. There are 3.3 liter and 3.8 liter V6 options, as well as a the Tau V8 4.6 liter engine. The V8 produces 368 horsepower, and can go zero to 60 in less than six seconds.
The body structure is stiffer than other models in its class, as well. In fact, it is somewhere around 12 percent stiffer than the Mercedes E-class or a BMW 5-series. Still, the body on the Hyundai Genesis is lighter than either of these.
Some of the features in the Genesis include adaptive headlights, electronic stability control, heated and cooled seats, ultrasonic sensors to help with tight parking, and eight airbags. In addition, it features a leather-wrapped dash, console lid and door panels. The steering wheel is even wrapped in an ultraviolet reflective leather that will stay cool even when there is an excessive amount of sun exposure.
